Winter Bonsai Display – Feb. 15-16th

 

Join us Saturday and Sunday, February 15th-16th for the 2020 KBS Winter Bonsai Display at the Knoxville Botanical Garden!

Saturday February 15th – 10am to 5pm

Sunday February 16th – 9am to 3pm

Demonstration(s):  Noon to 2pm

Admission is free and open to the public.  We will be hosting a guest Bonsai Artist demonstration, performing a workshop, vendors selling bonsai items and beginner trees, and silent auction!

2020 KBS Meetings and Winter Display

Happy New Year Knoxville Bonsai Society!  The 2020 Event Schedule is updated.

2020 meeting dates coming up, mark your calendars for January 18th and February 1st, from 10am-1pm.  January meeting will be at Shannon’s and February meeting is at Tom’s.  For directions/locations please see KBS emails, or sign up (Contact Us Here!) to get on the mailing list.

Knoxville Bonsai Society will have a 2020 Winter Bonsai Show on Feb 15 & 16. Set-up is on Friday (Feb 14 from 4-6 PM and Saturday, Feb 15 from 8-10 AM)
The show will be held at the beautiful Knoxville Botanical Garden in the Dogwood Center BLDG. The address is 2743 Wimpole Ave. Knoxville, TN 37914
The schedules are:
Feb 14, Friday set-up from 4-6 PM
Feb 15, Saturday Set-up from 8-10 AM. Show starts from 10 to 5 PM.
Feb 16, Sunday, doors open from 9 and show end at 3 PM
The Guest Artist is Arthur Joura. Mr. Joura is the Bonsai Curator at the NC Arboretum in Asheville, NC.
We will have Silent Auction, Vendors, demo and workshop (more details later). Awards will be giving to best trees
We are inviting five other Bonsai Society clubs beside Knoxville club to participate and they are:

Chattanooga
Asheville, NC
Atlanta

KBS Meeting Sat. Feb. 9th

Again just a friendly reminder that the meeting is this Saturday, 2-9-19, at Dat’s house from 10-2. Bring your trees especially pine or juniper trees if you need help, or need to prepare your Display trees for the show.

The Winter Display show is Feb 16 & 17.

  • Set up is on Friday 15 from from 4 to 7.
  • Show times are: Saturday – from 10-5 and Sunday is from 10-3.
  • Shannon’s trident workshop at the show on Saturday, 2-16-19, from 12-4 and 8 people max. The cost is $30. This is bring your own trees to the workshop. He has trident seedlings for sell for 10 seedlings for $15. Please contact him if you need some.  This is the time of the year to work on Trident (trimming, cutting, grafting and re potting) so sign up!
  • The show silent auction – Please collect your bonsai items, tress, books, pots, etc… to donate to the silent auction!
  • Tim Weckman from KY will be our Vendor. Tim has lots of trees in pre-bonsai and bonsai for sale.

Feb.16-17th KBS Winter Display

The Knoxville Bonsai Society Annual Winter Show/Display is on Feb 16th and 17th and it is at Knoxville Botanical Garden – bldg, Dogwood Center. This a FREE event open to the public! Times for the show is 10 to 5 on Saturday and 10 to 3 on Sunday.

Come see local examples of Bonsai art and beautiful styled miniature trees in their winter forms. There will be vendors, silent auction, and a Trident maple workshop from 12 to 4 on Saturday with local Bonsai artist. There will also be a Bonsai styling demonstration going on Sunday (time TBD).

Dec. 8th KBS Holiday Meeting

This Saturday, December 8th from 11am-1pm

KBS Monthly December Meeting and Annual Holiday Lunch

Dec 8th – Knoxville Botanical Garden Mule Barn building (2649 Boyd’s Bridge Rd.)

KBS will provide a Honey Baked Ham.
We will need:
at least 4 side dishes
Salad.
Utensils for at lease 20 people (big plates and small plates)
2 to 3 desserts
Bread/rolls
Everybody to bring one drink they like.

KBS Winter Display & 2018 Events

Thanks to everyone who came out to Knoxville Botanical Gardens last weekend and supported the KBS Winter Display!  We hope everyone enjoyed their time and learned more about bonsai.  There was tremendous interest and enthusiasm from all around the Knoxville community, including many new member sign-ups.

KBS Officers and Members would also like to extend thank you to Neil Dellinger Guest Artist, and to Jim Richards and Knoxville Botanical Gardens for letting us using the bldg for the show and their Hospitality.

1 – Set up is on Friday, Feb 16 from 5 PM to 8 PM
2 – Saturday set up is from 8 to 10 and the show is from 10 AM to 5 PM.
    a – Demo from 10:30 to 12
    b – BYOT workshop with Neil from 1 to 5. Fee is $50. 8 people max
    c – Silent Auction from set up from 1 – 5
3 – Sunday from 10 to 3.
    a – Show Critique from 9 to 10.
    b – Show is from 10 to 3.
    c – Awards are announced at 11 for the outstanding trees.
    d – Awards are: Best of Show, Best Shohin, Best Chuhin, Best Ogata and People Choice.
    e – Silent auction closed at 2. Winning bids announced.
4- The Guest Artist is Neil Dellinger out of Westfield, Indiana. Neil is an outstanding bonsai Practitioner.

Christmas Luncheon Dec. 9th at Noon

Please don’t forget the meeting and Christmas luncheon is this Saturday, Dec 9, at 9:30 to 1:30 or so at Knoxville Botanical Garden at the new building.
  1. The main thing for this meeting is to go over the planning for the 2018 winter show on Feb 17 & 18.  The lighting committee people (Tom, Fred and Wes) please try your best to come.
  2. For the Luncheon about 12 noon.  KBS will provide a honey baked ham, utensils and ices.  If you are planning to come, please bring a side dish or a dessert and a 2-liter or tea drink of your choice – and email Dat to RSVP!
